Richmond Cottage forms part of what was known as The Richmond Arms Hotel, Rhynie.
Although the hotel is now closed there is still the Gordon Arms Hotel in the village along with a Post Office, Bank, Shops and Filling Station. THINGS TO SEE AND DO. FISHING. Although game fishing certainly features some exclusive beats on the rivers like the Dee, Don and Spey, this is a truly democratic pastime in this part of Scotland. Plenty of good-quality fishing at sensible prices is offered on stretches of some rivers like the Findhorn, Deveron, Bogie, Ythan, Urie and Ugie. Sea anglers also have a wide range of options, with charter available as well as coastal marks. CYCLING. The network of rural roads in Scotland's North-east make this ideal cycling territory. Away from the higher hills in the west of the area, terrain is fairly undemanding, tending towards gentle, rolling countryside. The low rainfall records of Moray and the north-eastern knuckle are also an advantage for cyclists. Off road cycling options include former railway trackbeds - a good way of discovering the areas north of Aberdeen. There are also forestry tracks and some rights of way that have potential fit for cyclists. GOLF. Golf in the north-east has more than its fair share of notable courses. Although Huntly, Insch and Alford are closest there are some seaside gems - Cruden Bay for instance, is arguably the most famous and is ranked in the top 40 British courses. Royal Tarlair is another testing course at Macduff with magnificent coastal views from its clifftop setting, while Lossiemouth offers the classic coastal links. Inland, you can try out Britain's highest golf course at Braemar in a splendid setting in the hills. SKIING. There are two ski-develpments nearby at Glenshee and The Lecht. Glenshee stakes its claim as Scotland's most extensive ski area with more than 25 miles of downhill runs. It is reached from the A93 from Braemar - Britain's highest road. The Lecht is a much more compact centre, ideal for beginners and families, with Tomintoul as its closest village. WALKING. Our area is idael for walking terrain for all levels of fitness. There is a selection of way-marked trails and extensive path networks with coastal walking, railway trackbed walkways, clifftop paths, moorland rights of way - it is simply great walking country. WATERSPORTS. Facilities are well developed for visitors at placed such as Peterhead with it's marina, Banff with an active yacht club and other areas around the coast such as Findhorn Bay. WILDLIFE. Birdwatchers and other wildlife enthusiasts have plenty to attract them with a wide choice of habitats from high mountains - good for ptarmigan and golden eagle - right down to coastal location with their gulls and waders. Coastal nature reserves at places such as Loch of Strathbeg - Scotland's highest land-locked lagoon - are good at all times of the year. Upland reserves such as Moor of Dinnet, with it's beautiful birch woods, offer an insight into the diversity of natural habitat, while there are places where a sighting of fishing ospreys or ruttung deer are virtually guaranteed. Lots of Scottish specialities, from crested tits to dolphins are quite easy to find, plus Scotland's only mainland gannet colony.
